Meet Gail C. Powell - Author & Book Coach

Hello! I’m Gail C Powell: storyteller and book coach with a lifelong love of words, weird history, and the quiet magic that happens when an idea becomes a real book.

I write fiction (especially the kind with shadows and secrets), and I coach writers who are ready to bring their stories into clearer shape — structure, momentum, and a plan you can actually follow. Whether you’re holding a messy draft, a half-finished manuscript, or a story that won’t leave you alone, I’m here to help you turn it into something real… and complete.

If you’d like to explore working together, it begins with a free, no-pressure Zoom chat.

Cup of tea is encouraged, and snacks celebrated.

My Story (and why I do this)

Books have always been part of my life; as escape, comfort, and a way of making sense of the world. I’ve written for as long as I can remember, and for over 25 years I’ve supported writers behind the scenes: helping them shape their voice, strengthen structure, organise their ideas, and carry a book from concept to completion.

Over the years I’ve worked on a wide range of nonfiction; from self-help and memoir to practical guides and spiritual writing, and I’ve also supported the development of fiction projects. What lights me up most is that moment when a writer stops circling and second-guessing… and starts moving forward with clarity.

Eliza Binks and the pull of story

Most recently, I published my own middle-grade novel, Eliza Binks – Ghost Investigator, inspired by the atmosphere and history of Pontefract Castle. Writing Eliza rekindled my love of storytelling and reminded me how brave it is to share your words; especially when you care deeply about what you’re creating.

It also sharpened what I now bring to my clients: I’m not only guiding you from theory. I’m in it too, drafting, shaping, revising, and learning what it takes to finish.

How I work with writers

I don’t do endless, open-ended coaching that drifts. I work in focused 6-week containers, because writers need structure as much as stories do.

Together we’ll create clarity around:

  • what your story is really about

  • what’s working (and what’s wobbling)

  • how to strengthen structure without losing your voice

  • the next steps that get you finished

If you’re ready for grounded support with warmth, honesty, and real momentum then I’d love to meet you.
